Whitney National Bank, Carrollton Branch

This new branch for the Whitney National Bank was designed to integrate the traditional character of one of New Orleans’ oldest banking institutions with today’s state-of-the-art commercial banking practices. Located on one of the City’s most prominent historic avenues, the structure maintains the urban street edge while concealing parking and drive-through banking facilities to the rear. The design establishes a monumentally scaled banking hall that engages the street activity through a two-story high glazed wall protected by a massive, cornice capped colonnade. Natural light is introduced at all edges of the banking hall, which is scaled in the tradition of the historic Whitney Bank branches. Polished plaster walls, stone floors, imaginatively stained millwork, carefully crafted ceilings and well-proportioned light fixtures convey a feeling of contemporary elegance and permanence. The focal point of the lobby is a multi-panel custom art mural, depicting the surrounding neighborhood.
