SoBou, a new “spirited” restaurant South of Bourbon, is the latest culinary creation from The Commander’s Family of Restaurants located at W French Quarter. With the restaurant specializing in a cutting-edge cocktail program, the design of the spaces compliment that with interpretations of the concept of mixology.
Visible from all dining spaces is a gently curving bar with brass framing and illuminated glass that hark back to the equipment used to create hand-fashioned cocktails. The area flanking the bar gives more of a beer garden feel with wooden tables outfitted with beer taps.
The main dining areas recall an apothecary which speaks to the origins of the cocktail. Floor-to-ceiling shelves clad the walls in bottles and the space is divided by apothecary cases. Suspended in the main dining room are two large brass light fixtures, tying in the brass from the bar. This feature along with exposed existing brick, tie the spaces together, ground the project, and keep the atmosphere relaxed.
